Start a Couple’s Bucket List
Let’s start with my favorite Valentine’s Day idea of them all. Do you have some couple goals you wish to achieve this year? Jot it down on a notebook and create your very own bucket list. It can include anything you two dream to do in life together. Perhaps, it can be traveling to Ireland to sleep in a beautiful castle or going far into the north to see the glaciers. It can be a resolution to hit the gym and workout regularly. It can even include binging on Game of Thrones or catching up on your readings. Any fun activities or experiences should be on the list!
Eat Breakfast in Bed
How about dishing up a little love by preparing a delicious breakfast for your beloved and serving it in bed? As they say, good food is the way to someone’s heart. You can make some waffles or pancakes and jazz them up with whipped cream and strawberries. You can even sprinkle some chocolate syrup. Break some eggs and cook a scrumptious cheese omelet with some toast. Most importantly, don’t forget the morning coffee! After it is done, place the food on the bed tray with some roses and a cute little love note.
Slow Dance to Your Song
Don’t we all have a song that reminds us of the time when we fell in love? Remember the early days when you both were nervous and giggly, and holding hands gave you jitters and enveloped you in warmth at the same time? The first kiss and even the first fight over the silliest issue… Oh, those lovely days! Bring them back by putting on YOUR song and slow dancing to it.
Stay Up All Night
Do you remember when the two of you just started your relationship and would spend the wee hours of the morning just talking on the phone? Try to replicate that special period of time by planning an all-nighter that may include chatting, laughing, dancing or taking a late night stroll.
Take a Bubble Bath (with Champagne & Strawberries!)
Bubble baths are not only romantic, they are actually quite therapeutic. They have a power to cleanse and soothe you inside out. If you are a little harried and short on time, take out an hour and jump into the bathtub with your significant other. Set up the mood! Light scented candles, dim the lights, put on relaxing music, fill up the bath with water and add some salts and bath bombs, and plunge! Add some strawberries and a bottle of champagne and this is one of the must things to do on Valentine’s Day.
Create a Music Playlist of Your Relationship
Compile all the songs that have meaning to your relationship and put them on a cd. What song was playing on your first date? Before you had the title of boyfriend or girlfriend? What was your wedding song? Is there a band that brings back wonderful memories? You can make it a ritual to listen to the tunes on each Valentine’s Day.
Eat Fondue Together
Are you two foodies who would simply love to dip in fondue and forget about everything else? Grab a huge pot of fondue, some bread, and forks, and eat away! It is a Swiss and French Savoyard dish that features melted cheese over a portable stove. If you want sweet rather than savory, you can go for chocolate fondue that has sweet tidbits of fruits and pastries. Sounds heavenly, doesn’t it?
Share Chocolate Covered Strawberries
Do you want to keep your Valentine’s Day low-key with no expensive gifts or a lavish dinner? Just grab some strawberries, dip them in Nutella and devour them together. Honestly, you can’t beat that! Simplicity has its own charm. Sometimes you don’t need lavish activities, all you need is to lie down on the couch together, watch some TV and gobble down some chocolate-covered strawberries. Try it!
Watch Your Favorite Romantic Movie
Watch a romantic movie together to reflect your lovey-dovey feelings on Valentine’s Day. From a romantic comedy like You’ve Got Mail to a tearjerker like Titanic, have a movie marathon or stick to your most favorite one. Laugh at jokes, cuddle, and don’t forget to have some popcorn and soda.
Fill the House with Candles
Want to send a secret ‘love’ message without resorting to fancy dinners and surprise gifts? Light up your whole house with scented (and unscented) candles! Create a calming ambience where you two can simply relax, talk to each other and gaze at the flickering flames surrounding you. If you are worried about starting a fire, then try these flameless tealight candles.
Write Each Other a Love Letter
Lets bring it back to old school; the days where letters were handwritten, sealed with a kiss and mailed at the post office. Love letters are a physical memory that will last a lifetime.
Buy a Lottery Ticket and Share Your Dreams
Sometimes we are so lost in living and making both ends meet that we forget to focus on our dreams and passions. We have plans to achieve our goals and they start out good, but then comes responsibilities and the ever-increasing workload. Then, some of our dreams naturally get tucked away and then forgotten. This Valentines Day reawaken your dreams and take a leap of faith. Buy a lottery ticket! I know it sounds crazy but who knows, you might be lucky enough to win. But, even if you are not the winner, sharing what you would do with the winnings makes for a great conversation.
Put Rose Petals on the Bed
Perhaps your partner has to work late, so there will be no time for a fancy dinner or night on the town. Still, you want to send them a message that how much them mean to you and put your point across. Have you considered arranging rose petals on bed that spell out your message? Turn your bedroom into a romantic retreat by showering some red roses throughout the bed. Say ‘I love you’ or any other message you choose.
Create your Couples Cocktail
When you can have a special song to dance to, then what’s stopping you to have your own signature drink? You know, something you cannot simply grab off the shelf or get in your local bar. Celebrate the day of affection and love by creating a cocktail that captures the intensity of your emotions and the fiery flavors of your love. Raise a glass to your relationship and drink away!
Feed Each Other
As they say the fastest way to the heart is through good food! Feed each other a handful of delicious goodies, giggle and fall in love all over again. I know it sounds cheesy, but the intimate interaction is a perfect solution to reignite the spark in your relationship. From saucy sandwiches to sweet candies, don’t hold back. Be careful not to bite each others fingers, but maybe a little nibble would be okay.
Leave Love Sticky Notes all Over the House
Does your significant other and you have a thing for love letters and sweet little notes? Do you leave them on the fridge, on the bathroom mirror and even in each other’s wallets? It is a rather pleasant surprise stumbling upon a love note and realizing how much you mean to them. Perhaps, there are things you wish to express but aren’t able to. Sticky notes to the rescue! Gather your thoughts, grab a pen or two, and jot down your feeling on notes and stick them randomly all over the house. By the way, they even make heart-shaped sticky notes for the occasion.
